Offer academically at-risk youth an alternative method of expression, in a positive environment;

Build community awareness, with youth and their peers, and with youth and their surrounding community.

Notes

Fees for artist-in-residence programs are listed as a range, based on the artists available. Master artists (20+ years experience) are paid fees commensurate with their professional expertise.

All NHTP residencies are inclusive, and designed to accommodate children of all abilities.

NHTP residencies are designed to match the Curriculum Standards for Drama recommended by the NH Department of Education.

For Story Theatre and Peer Theatre residencies, NHTP artists teach in teams to accomodate school schedules and classroom size, and to model artistic collaboration.

Residencies are designed for in-school hours, except for final performances. After-school programs may be considered, with appropriate supervision and regular participant attendance.

Peer outreach theatre gives voice to youth perspectives and increases the awareness of the complex issues facing today’s youth. Artists work with students to create a variety of short, open-ended scenes that present characters in situations that are realistic and common. Following the performance, cast members stay in character and solicit questions and comments from the audience about the scenes presented and the choices that the characters made or could have made. This dialogue is integral to the presentation and brings the audience inside the performance and characters, leading them to think about healthy decision-making and consequences. Topics of peer theatre scenes are chosen by the students themselves and range from substance abuse to violence, from HIV/AIDS to sibling rivalry.
